Pistachio Exports

Pistachio is a plant species. Growth in countries like Iran, Syria, Turkmenistan, West side of Afghanistan. Pistachio production in Iran in 2005 is equivalent to 190,000 tons, which makes Iran the number one producer. After Iran, U.S with the production of 140,000 tons is the second and Turkey stand at third place with the production of 000.60 tons.


The word pistachio is Farsi; Latin language is responsible for the addition of this word into European languages.

Pistachio production is in the city of Rafsanjan and Yazd and Damghan, while most of this production is in the city of Rafsanjan. Damghan Pistachios has the best quality in the world with its distinguish taste and fat.

Pistachio is the fruit nut of pistachio tree.The pistachio tree was found in Turkey and Iran. At that time, the pistachio was the diet of noble men. In later years it would be served in celebrations and parties.Later, it could be found in a variety of desserts, sweets, ice cream and even eaten as an appetizer. For it’s shape it was known as “Smiling nut”.

Pistachio is consumed as a plant nutrient and energizer, and also used in treating many diseases. Best Pistachio of the world is in Iran which can be found in Kerman, Rafsanjan, Sirjan, Damghan .

It’s a nutritious fruit that contains vitamins B1, B3 and E's. It also contains nutrients such as iron, potassium, phosphorus and calcium. It is also considered blood builder because of it’s high level of iron.

The main rival of Iranian pistachio is American pistachio.Americans harvest three tons of pistachio per hectare while the same amount is 700 and 900 kg of pistachio. Perhaps the biggest problem is the price of Iranian pistachio against its rival. The reason for lower price of the American product is their mechanization of farming. While harvesting pistachio in Iran requires 20 to 30 individuals, the same space requires 2 individuals in America.

The most important take on this is our lack of agricultural machinery and Irrigation types. Because in U.S drip irrigation is used while in Iran the flooding and traditional method is in order, this method can cause water loss and weeds growth.

The process of cutting weeds can be costly. Many foreign customers prefer Iranian pistachio because of its unremarkable taste, they are big customers of this product and since the have become accustomed to it they don’t wish to use American pistachio.

The most important reason for Iranian pistachio’s taste is weather and soil of Iran which helps the growth of such product.
